How it works

The full lifecycle of a market, from question to payout.

Last updated October 16, 2026

The big picture

Step 1Create
Step 2Approve
Step 3Trade
Step 4Resolve
Step 5Payout

1. A market is created

A user submits a question about a Solana memecoin: the token, the target (market cap or price), the deadline and an optional first bet. See Create a market.

2. The market is reviewed

New markets go to an approval queue so spam, unclear questions and unsafe tokens are filtered out. Approved markets go live. Rejected markets return the creator's first bet in full.

3. People trade

While the market is open, anyone can bet Yes or No. Every bet is a USDC transfer into that market's vault, run by the MemePredictions program on Solana. The program checks the limits and records your position on chain. Odds move as money flows into each side.

4. The market locks

At the deadline, betting stops. The program refuses new bets and the market waits for resolution.

5. The market resolves

MemePredictions reads the final value from price data providers (DexScreener, with Birdeye as backup) using a 15 minute time weighted average (TWAP) around the deadline, so one wick or one fake trade cannot decide the outcome. The admin records the result and the final value on chain. The result is Yes, No or Void.

6. Dispute window

After resolution there is a 24 hour dispute window. Any wallet with a position can flag a result it believes is wrong. See Disputes.

7. Payouts

Winners claim their stake back plus their share of the losing pool, minus the 1 percent fee. If a market is void or rejected, or one side has no bets, everyone gets their stake back. The program marks each position as claimed, so it can never pay the same bet twice.

Where does the money sit?

In a vault account owned by the MemePredictions program, one vault per market. Nobody can move it except through the program rules. See Wallets and security.

NoteMemePredictions is running on Solana devnet with test USDC while the program goes through a security review. Mainnet comes after that.
