Seeding and liquidity

How new markets get their first money and fair starting odds.

Last updated October 16, 2026

Why seeding matters

A market with no bets has no odds. Seeding gives it a starting pool so the first bettor sees a sensible price.

Creator seed

The creator places the first bet (1 to 500 USDC) on the side they choose.

Treasury seed

The platform can also seed a market from the treasury by adding equal house bets on Yes and No, which sets the odds near 50 percent. House seed bets are labeled "Seeded by MemeMarkets", follow the exact same payout rules as every other bet, and are excluded from leaderboards. Any payout from house bets returns to the treasury.

Where seed money comes from

Creator rewards from the MemeMarkets token on Pump.fun fund the treasury. See Treasury.

One sided markets

If nobody bets against the creator, the market is refunded at resolution. Seeding both sides reduces that risk.
